If you’re an Indigenous young adult who cares about water, land, and the future of your people, this opportunity is for you.
The National Wildlife Federation (NWF) has launched the Colorado River Indigenous Youth Advisory Council (CRIYAC) — a space for Indigenous youth to deepen their understanding of what’s happening to the Colorado River, and to help shape the conversations that matter.
This isn’t “just another program.” This is a seat at the table.
Who this is for
You should apply (or be nominated) if you are:
- 18–25 years old
- A tribal member from a Colorado River Basin tribe
- Ready to learn, speak up, and represent your community with strength and humility
Why it matters
The Colorado River crisis isn’t abstract. It impacts:
- drinking water
- farming and grazing
- jobs and local economies
- cultural practices tied to land and water
- the future our kids will inherit
Too often, decisions are made far away from our communities. CRIYAC is a direct push in the other direction: Indigenous youth informed, equipped, and present in the conversation.
What you’ll get out of it
This council is designed to help you:
- mobilize
- be encouraged
- be engaged
- be supported
- be better informed
- create change
- become an advocate for your River and your people
And yes — travel expenses and an honorarium are included.
Don’t overthink it
A lot of young people skip opportunities like this because they assume they aren’t “qualified.” That’s usually the exact reason they should apply.
If you care, you’re already closer than you think.
And if you know someone who should be there — nominate them. Tag them. Send this to them. Tell them straight: “This is for you.”
