January Home Visits: Stress Management + Where We’ll Be This Month

January can feel like a reset… and a pressure cooker. The San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe Health Department wants you to know you’re not doing this season alone. We’re here to support you and your family, and we’re bringing January Home Visits out into the communities listed below.

Stress management: simple tools that actually help

Here are a few practical ways to nurture your mind, body, and spirit during a busy (and sometimes stressful) time of year:

Take care of your body

  • Keep meals simple and steady (even small, regular meals help).
  • Move a little each day (a short walk counts).
  • Prioritize sleep where you can—your nervous system needs it.

Take care of your mind

  • Try 60 seconds of slow breathing when you feel overwhelmed.
  • Write down what’s heavy on your mind, then circle what you can control.
  • Limit “doom scrolling” if it’s spiking your anxiety.

Stay connected

  • Don’t isolate when you’re stressed—reach out to someone safe.
  • Join community events when you can (even a short visit helps).

Watch for signs of stress

Stress isn’t just “feeling worried.” It can show up as:

  • Irritability, anger, or shutting down
  • Headaches, stomach issues, body tension
  • Trouble sleeping or changes in appetite
  • Feeling numb, exhausted, or “on edge”

During the holidays and winter season

  • Keep expectations realistic (you don’t have to do everything).
  • Set boundaries with time, money, and commitments.
  • Ask for help early—before you’re burnt out.
