Elder Women's Group: Diabetes, Osteoporosis, and the Strength We Carry
Our elders carry the knowledge. They also carry burdens that don't always get talked about openly — and two of the most serious are diabetes and osteoporosis.
On April 16, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe Health Department is hosting the next Elder Women's Group gathering. This month's session features a presentation on Diabetes & Osteoporosis by Kaden Granger, Health Educator with the Navajo Nation Special Diabetes Program.
This isn't a lecture. It's a platform for cultural wellness sharing — a space where elder women can ask real questions, hear from a knowledgeable educator, and connect with each other over a light cultural lunch.
Diabetes affects Native communities at rates far above the national average. Osteoporosis often goes undiagnosed until a fall changes everything. These are not abstract statistics. They are our grandmothers, our aunties, our mothers. When we give our elder women better information in a culturally grounded setting, we give them back agency over their own health.
If you are an elder woman in our community — or if you love one — please spread the word.
